Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
People have misused the word transformation for years. We all have seen those weight loss infomercials that speak to the amazing transformation of someone who has lost a lot of weight and looks amazing. The newfound health is amazing and something to celebrate but there was no transformation… just change. Everything about them remains the same except their appearance and perhaps their outlook on life. Transformation indicates a miraculous and completely new identity. It indicates a moving from one reality into another. It can only be authored by the one who had the authority to give you life. We do not have the power of transformation… God does.
When we offer ourselves as living sacrifices to God we are identifying with the sacrifice of the transformed Christ. We are receiving the same power and authority that God used to raise His Son from death. We become Holy and Acceptable. Two words we could never use as a self-description without His touch. I do not merely want to change my appearance into one who “looks” like a Christian… I want to be transformed into a son who is hidden in Him. I want to factor in the power of the Holy Spirit like I do gravity… every move and every moment guided by the reality that Jesus has overcome death to give us LIFE.
